Foster Care Information Night
Many children are in vulnerable situations and need a safe place to live while their parents stabilize. Most kids don’t even know they are in danger because it is all they have ever known. Being a foster parent is not easy, but it is a special call to radical hospitality and a love for our neighbors. Every child deserves to be safe and loved, and oftentimes the stories of the children and families reveal crushingly hard situations. In the state of Colorado, there is a movement to help families heal and become more stable so their children can return to live with them. This is a Godly plan to preserve families and provide healing for future generations.
If you are currently interested in foster care, or even have the slightest consideration, please join us on February 12 from 5-7pm for a foster care information night with Bethany Christian Services. You will hear from Bethany about how to support children in foster care - there are LOTS of different ways! We will share a meal, engage in fellowship, and participate in the information session. In tandem with the information night, our foster/adoption support group will be meeting in the building as well. Families will join for the communal meal before breaking off into their support group discussions. This will allow for those attending the info night to engage with current foster & adoption families and experience the gravity and beauty of this work.
Just a little bit of info and background on the support group:
Foster and adoption have been a part of the DNA of Wellspring since the very beginning. Ten years ago, Eric and I, along with a few other families, started a support group for foster and adoptive families. They had a deep desire for everyone on this extraordinary journey NOT to feel alone. This group meets on the second Saturday of every month from 5-7pm, and everyone's invited. The group is open to those interested in beginning the journey, those who have been adopted, and families who are currently fostering or have completed adoptions. There is deep vulnerability and trust in this group - both joy and tears are shared every single time. Not everyone attends Wellspring - and that’s ok, all are welcome! Many of the children in this group are racially diverse and the group has expanded to include Pastor Greg Rogers to lead them and guide them through the challenges that come with adoption.
Eric and I just recently celebrated 20 years with our son, Matthew, who was adopted from Ukraine. The journey of an international adoption is full of ups and downs (more like crashes, burns and thrills) and I remember time after time the Wellspring community coming around us every step of the way. This support group has been a large part of that.
