The Weekly Liturgy :: Week of 2/5/2023

Gather - We begin our Liturgy in corporate worship by coming together and acknowledging who God is through the Acclamation. God’s character and presence frames our corporate worship and this is also the way we begin our Weekly Liturgy whether we engage it personally or in a group setting.

  • How did you experience God’s character and presence this week (joys, struggles, breakthroughs)?

Word - We desire for God’s Word to always be on our minds, upon our lips, and deep in our hearts. We want to read, reflect, listen, and respond to God’s word as we are formed more deeply as disciples of Jesus.

Read John 21:15-19 and 1 Peter 5:1-4

Reflect on these passages either individually or with others.

Listen to the Holy Spirit. How is God speaking to you through this passage?

  • Reread 1 Peter 5:1-4.  Take a moment of silence and listen to what the Holy Spirit highlights in your heart about the passage.

  • Share your general experience concerning being part of a church and church leadership.  Was there ever a time when you experienced hurt and pain?  Share a time when you experienced healing in church.

  • The two aspects of toxic leaders are domineering leading and being motivated by self consumption ('dishonest gain'). How have you experienced aspects in church, work, or life?  As a leader or a person of influence, what are things you struggle with?

  • A Shepherd leader leads through sacrificial love and service.  How have you experienced this and what has the fruit been?

  • The simple principle of a shepherd leader is that they absorb pain and project blessing.  Discuss a time when you saw this principle of work in your own life.

  • In the sermon, Billy shared his commitment to the congregation and also shared the congregation's commitment to the leadership and church.  Below are your commitments.  What are your thoughts about the list?

    1. Your Commitment to the Shepherds:

      1. Pray for Leadership

      2. Live into our membership commitment

        1. Pursue growth in Jesus through prayer and study of God’s word

        2. Submit to His will for your entire life

        3. Get baptized

        4. Regularly attend services

        5. Serve WSP with the gifts God has given you

        6. Get plugged into a discipleship group

        7. Give sacrificially to WSP

        8. Support the leadership

Prayer - Spend a few minutes praying into the areas God has spoken to you about. Pray for one another, for the non-believers in your lives, and for the world. (Consider praying through the Lord’s Prayer).

Sending - We are all called and sent out into the world to bring the message of the Gospel. Where are you being sent this week to share Jesus through your actions and words? Is there a specific person or area you need to reach out to or pray for?
