Weekly Liturgy :: Children and Family :: Week of 3/28

Gather

Before reading scripture, ask your kids what they have learned about Palm Sunday and Holy Week.

Scripture :: Please Read Aloud :: Mark 11:1-11

Family Discipleship Questions

  1. What city was Jesus entering into? (Jerusalem)

  2. Read Zechariah 9:9 and talk about how Jesus entering on a donkey is a fulfillment of the prophecy in Zechariah!

  3. If your family would like to look up the significance of cloaks and palm branches, read 2 Kings 9:12-13. People laying their cloaks on the ground symbolized submission to Jesus as King and the palm branches meant victory at that time.

  4. What were the people saying and singing as Jesus entered Jerusalem? (Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord)

  5. What does this mean? (Hosanna means ‘save’. And the blessing is a prayer over the coming kingdom!)

  6. The people that cheered on Jesus on Palm Sunday thought Jesus would lead them to defeat the Roman empire but Jesus had even bigger plans in store! He would defeat Satan, sin, and death for all of His people.

Confession

Ask each family member to write out a confession:

Lord I bring you _____________ (my heart, my sins)

I am sorry that I __________ (can be selfish, do not share, lie, disobey) God you are ______________ (so good, caring, forgiving, amazing, perfect, loving, full of grace)

Create in me ________________ (a new heart, new/better habits)

With your grace and mercy I am forgiven, Amen.

Corporate Confession

Prayers

Pray for those who do not know the Lord and who will be reached this Holy Week. Praise Jesus for His great plans for all of us, plans that are even better than what we can imagine.

The Lord's Prayer
