Staff Profile :: Emily Worth

Hi Wellspring!

Welcome to Staff Profiles: our interview-style newspieces with the incredible members of our Wellspring Staff. Our team is a vibrant group of disciples who love Jesus, love each other, and love the work we engage on a day-to-day basis. As we explore a mixture of both light-hearted and in-depth questions in these interviews, we hope they will shine a spotlight on the unique individuals of this family. (If you would like to read some other profiles you may have missed, you can locate them under the “Fun Stuff” tab on the Good News page).

Joining us today is our 5th and 6th Grade Ministry Coordinator, Emily Worth. Emily possesses a rich devotion to Jesus, his church, and the mission God has for his people, which comes to life through her daily work here at Wellspring. If she isn’t at the church, you can probably find her studying at Denver Seminary, where her passionate yet gentle spirit delivers profound wisdom in the classroom environment. The lunch conversations Emily and I have shared about life, theology, and the church have revealed her wisdom to me in a way that has provoked personal transformation, and these dialogues have become a staple of our friendship. When she says she has an appreciation for good food, she isn’t kidding; she and her and her husband, Chase, are always down for a 4:30 happy hour soiree with apps and drinks. Invite them to your next gathering- you will be delighted.

Question 1: Tell us about your family.

I grew up in central Florida, and that is where my grandparents, parents, and twin brother and sister all still live! I moved out to Colorado for college, and now I could never live anywhere that doesn’t have seasons or mountains. I have been married for a year to my husband, Chase. We have a puppy, who is a lab Pit mix, and he completes our family for now ;) We love to go hiking and kayaking and just enjoy the mountains!

Question 2: What is your favorite fiction and non-fiction book? What do you like about them?

My favorite fictional book is The Book Thief. I sob every time I read it. It’s one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking books about a girl surviving the Holocaust. It reminds me of both the brokenness of humanity and the beauty in the most dire of circumstances. My favorite non-fiction book is Daring Greatly by Brene Brown. I read it the first time in my senior year of high school and have continually been encouraged by her words.

Question 3: What is an interesting fact about you that we wouldn’t already know?

I love swans - most people are scared of them but they remind me of home. My home town is filled with lakes, and I grew up watching the swans and their families waddle around the lakes. They help me reflect on the ways my hometown made me the person I am today. My mom also sends me socks with swans on them every Christmas.

Question 4: What is one of your favorite spots in Denver and why?

My favorite spot in Denver is probably Sapor Coffee. I found it in college and it quickly became my go-to study spot. My husband and I have also gone on lots of coffee dates there, so it has good memories and is always a great hangout spot! Some of the best coffee I have had. Little Man Ice cream is also in the same area, and they have the best non dairy options for ice cream. If you can’t tell, I love all things food related and those are my favorite things to share with friends and family!

Question 5: Who is a person (friend, family member, author, musician, etc.) that has made a significant impact on your life? How have they contributed to who you are today?

My first mentor in ministry, Olivia, has largely impacted who I am and why I am in ministry! She identified gifts and abilities in me from a young age that I didn’t see in myself. I probably would not be in ministry without her influence and care for me. I have found a chosen family with her family and learned what faith in life, family, and ministry looks like in all different seasons of life.

Question 6: When church is over on Sunday, where would we find you and what would you be doing?

Right now with evening services, you’ll find me with the 5th and 6th graders playing games, having conversations about faith and life, and hanging out!

When we go back to morning services, you will probably find me on my couch, napping with my dog. It’s also my favorite time to read a book for fun or go enjoy being outside!

Question 7: Share a story from a neat place you have traveled to.

In college, I had the opportunity to travel to Scotland several times and serve a local church outside of Glasgow. On the last night of each trip, we invited all the families and students we had served to an Indian buffet and enjoyed all the curry and naan you could imagine! It will always be a fond memory for me, and I hope to one day return to Scotland and the families I served with there.

Question 8: What have you been learning lately through your relationship with Jesus?

Lately, I have been learning how Jesus is a friend to me. I have found great comfort in the humanity of Jesus and his experiences on earth with other people. Seeing the example of Christ in how he interacted with the disciples and others throughout his ministry has both been comforting and empowering as I navigate loving and caring for those around me.
