Staff Profile :: Nick Webber

Hey Wellspring Family!

My name is Brandon Corsi, I am the Communications Coordinator here at Wellspring Englewood. Having been here for almost a year now (woohoo!), I have absolutely fallen in love with the entire staff at this church. I count it as a privilege and a blessing to show up for work each day and be surrounded by so many loving, funny, humble, driven, talented human beings. There is a lot that goes on here behind the scenes during the week, and it is the vibrant personality of this eccentric team that makes our Kingdom work such a joy.

In fact, these people are SO incredible that we want to share more of their stories with you! I am thrilled to announce our new Good News segment, “Staff Profiles.” In these profiles, we will be featuring different members of our staff through an interview-format dialogue. As we engage a mixture of both light-hearted and in-depth questions, we hope these profiles will shine a spotlight on the unique individuals of Wellspring.

For this week’s Staff Profile, allow me to introduce Nick Webber. Nick is our Facilities Technician, who fixes anything and everything around the building and keeps that lawn looking nice and fresh. He is also a wildly talented musician, a local coffee connoisseur, and a lover of comedic content. Nick is one of the kindest, most intentional people on the face of this earth, and striking up a conversation with him will lead you to his wise insight and caring soul. Ask him to grab coffee sometime, but for now, enjoy his interview:

Question 1: Tell us about your family.

My mom is a kindergarten teacher, high school volleyball coach, and the most tender person I know. She has the keenest eye for all things beautiful, small things that most people would be inclined to take for granted. My dad is a machinist who can fix anything, build anything, and do basically anything he puts his mind to. He is a zealot with strong convictions that often go against the status quo, and he moves mountains for his family. My younger brother Austin is scary smart (he just completed a biology & chemistry double major) and loves few things more than a good story. His brain has a seemingly indefatigable capacity to store trivia about films, novels, video games, etc. He is a serial hobbyist, constantly developing new niche interests and mastering them in no time. My little sister Shayla is a shining star in the universe. She is a monster of a volleyball athlete (she'll be playing libero at Montana State University Bozeman this fall) but somehow has the ability to be the most intense, passionate person on the court while also treating everyone with the utmost of kindness, patience, and respect. She's the sort of humble leader this world desperately needs more of.

Question 2: What is your favorite fiction and non-fiction book? What do you like about them?

My favorite work of fiction is Watership Down by Richard Adams because it ignites my imagination. It's such a vibrant depiction of the English countryside, filled with the most charming characters. The book reads like folklore, and for whatever reason, this tale about a band of rabbits in search of a new home makes me think more deeply about the human condition and moves me like few novels do.

My favorite nonfiction book is Orwell's 1984. (Kidding... kind of.) My Bright Abyss by Christian Wiman is very dear to me. It's a poetic meditation on faith and doubt written in the midst and wake of a bone marrow transplant, and I just love how Wiman connects his personal experiences to poetry, art, and philosophy. It acknowledges the baffling complexities of the Mystery and offers no easy answers, but there are several moments of clarity and transcendence that are nothing less than sublime. That book makes me feel grateful to be alive.

Question 3: What is something weird about you?

I hate wearing shorts. I avoid it at all costs.

Question 4: What is your deathbed meal?

Fish & chips ON LOCATION with my loved ones on a quiet pier in the Pacific Northwest (I'm assuming the deathbed can be wheeled around). Preferably at sunset, with a whale breaching in the distance and the Perseids meteor shower overhead.

Question 5: If you could have lunch with anyone living or dead, who would it be and why? What would you be eating?

Flannery O'Connor, author of brilliantly disturbing Southern Gothic stories. She is one of my all time favorite human beings and I would love to talk to her about what it means to be a creative Christ-follower. We would be eating peach cobbler on the porch at her exotic bird farm.

Question 6: When church is over on Sunday afternoon, where would we find you and what would you be doing?

On the couch, snuggling with my napping wife and cat, thinking about Heelys and that time my college friends and I drove to Utah to get In-N-Out Burger.

Question 7: What is your #1 bucket list travel location?

Japan.

Question 8: What have you been learning lately through your relationship with Jesus?

Lately, I think Jesus has been teaching me that I don't have anything to prove to him or anyone else. That I can let go of my desire to feel significant, interesting, or successful. Upon self-reflection, those desires drive so many of my everyday decisions, and they are ultimately selfish motivators that never bring any kind of fulfilment or peace. I am beloved and that is enough.
